I received an email from a 419 scammer, also known as an advanced-fee scam. They offer $2.5 million on an ATM card coming from the West African country of Benin. The promise is to deliver the ATM card, which somehow I’ve inherited, as soon as I pay a delivery fee of $95. The email states to contact DHL delivery services of Benin at this number to pay the fee. It’s another twist on the same old story, they’ll scam you out of $95 and then something else comes up and they need you to send more $, quickly. These emails are written in fairly poor English, generally omitting or misusing pronouns and contain frequent misspellings. This scam in particular, I’ve received no less than 15 times in the past 2 months, all identical with the exception of the senders name and email address.
