Even if you block them with a pick up / hang up blocker they have still verified your number is active & can pick up a bit of cash selling lists of verified numbers to other scammers & telemarketers. If you have an Android phone (sorry iPhone users), go to xda-developers.com & see if there is a rooting exploit for your exact phone & Android version. Almost all but the very newest phones can be rooted, giving apps access to the lowest levels & the kernel. Some new phone owners might have to be a bit patient until an exploit has been posted. It's easy even for newbies to root a phone. In addition to being able to install a hundred custom variations of Android, powerful recovery s/w & custom kernels, you can install RCB (Root Call Blocker) from the Play store. It intercepts blocked calls before they reach the phone circuitry, & all the caller gets is the phone company's message that your number is out of service - it will not be added to third-party lists. Rooting violates warranty, but you can unroot & reinstall official Android for service. You can also find newest versions of Android that will run on older phones they are not officially supporting. Try it out. I've been rooting phones & tablets for many years & have thoroughly enjoyed the hundreds of powerful apps it supports. Go to play store & search on "root" or "rooted" to see the amazing apps that will only run on a rooted Android.
